Trnovo

From Nova Gorica you can drive to Trnovo along a 15 km long winding road, which is quite narrow in some places. After a difficult ascent, you can refresh yourself in the local inn, which has been recently opened. On the highest point of the village (approximately 780 meters above sea level) in the centre, the church is located. A little further, you can find a shop, a post office, a medical practice and a subsidiary Trnovo primary school, where children can attend the first four grades. Higher grades can be attended at the central school in Solkan. In the centre of the village, the houses are built quite close to each other. The village stretches along the road from Solkan to Lokve and includes also some hamlets. Approximately 320 people live here. Most of them drive to Nova Gorica or to nearby places to work, only some locals work in the agriculture sector.

According to historical sources, the village was named after the count Turn who once lived there. The history of the village is very rich - the Turkish and Napoleon’s troops crossed this area and the World War II battles also took place here. Visitors can admire several monuments dedicated to the soldiers who died in the area. The most widely known and mighty is the monument at Kobilnik hill.

It can be reached along the road towards Voglarji and then on foot along a nice path and stairs. This short ascent ends at Kobilnik, which offers a wonderful view of Nova Gorica and its surroundings in the South; if the skies are clear, you can see all the way to the Gulf of Trieste, the Soča River bed and Trstelj. In the North, you can admire the Julian Alps with the highest mountain - Triglav. At the foothills, the flame of peace and love is burning in an artistic sculpture, which was lit by Janez Rijavec - Gianni, a well known musician and peace activist. Towards the hamlet of Rijavci, the path leads to a holiday settlement with holiday cottages Trpinovšče, which is also a starting point to visit the natural sight Skozno - a large natural window, which offers a spectacular view of the Vipava Valley. Right beneath the village, there is a place where paragliders take off, especially popular when there are good winds.

Trnovo is a nice village with rich natural and cultural heritage, where our ancestors created a lovely place to live on mostly stony karstic soil. After a period of depopulation, the village is becoming alive again - many people are returning to the nature from towns and cities. Fresh air and peaceful environment are a source of a happy life and satisfaction for many of them.

Tandem Skydiving

Tandem Skydiving

Description:
On the slope beneath the village of Trnovo there is a launch-point for sports parachute jumps which is being managed by the Association Polet from Nova Gorica and where experienced skydivers launch themselves into the air. But upon request even a tandem skydive can be tried. All the jumps are carried out by means of up-to-date gliding parachutes and a state-of-the-art equipment, and all the pilots are flying instructors or very experienced and licensed tandem pilots who devote a special attention to the wind conditions, not only for safety’s sake but also to ensure the most delightful flying experiences. They are very enthusiastic about trying to stay in the air as long as possible. Everything, however, depends on the weather and the thermal conditions, a flight can thus last for 15 or even up to 45 minutes.

Monument to the Victims of the National Liberation War on the Banjšice and Trnovo Plateau

Description:
On the edge of the Trnovo Plateau there is the village of Trnovo where the Monument to and the sepulchre of the National Liberation War Victims can be visited. The monument, which is dedicated to 256 fallen Partisan fighters of the IX Corps, is the work of art of architect Edo Ravnikar and can be found at the hill-foot of Mount Kobilnik. The sepulchre was set-up in form of a platform with a panoramic view. Around the hill there goes a sandy path which connects the sepulchre with the hill-foot and where in the years 1981 - 1983 a Memorial amphitheatre was erected. Here the names of more than 2300 fallen Partisan fighters and victims of the National Liberation War are remembered. In 2005, on initiative of the White Dove Foundation (Fundacija Beli Golob), an ever-burning light of peace was lit in a glass - stone lantern.
